Arkansas 2017 - Saturday

Saturday April 15
Arkansas Derby Day

Today the weather was fantastic and we spent the day at Oaklawn enjoying their big day of racing with some 62,500 other racing fans.  The day started off with coffee on the porch overlooking the lake; followed by a scrumptious breakfast.

About 10:15 am we headed out to the Oaklawn and found a place to park only about two blocks away - trust me that was a great deal!  First things first - our fashion photo op!  And then we headed upstairs to our seats, which overlooked the finish line!  We awaited the start of the racing action.  I won three races on the day, including the Grade 3 Count Fleet with Whitmore who was ultra impressive.  On that race Keith hit the exacta with a 30/1 runner underneath the favorite for his big score of the day.

After the day at the races we headed to the other side of downtown to the Central Park Fusion Restaurant - which had been our favorite restaurant on our previous visit.  The bad news was we received a notice in the menu that tonight was their final night of business.  The good news is that in a few months they plan to re-open at a new location.  All three of us ordered the double-cut pork chop.  DELICIOUS!  By the time we headed back to the Lookout Point Lakeside Inn it was after nine and we did some preliminary packing and headed off to bed after a long day.

Sunday - April 16
Departure Day
Today the adventure came to an end.  We were on the porch overlooking the lake one last time by 7 am to enjoy a final cup of coffee.  Took a couple of group photos and then had our last breakfast before heading our separate ways.  What a great time we had......one of the best things was (a) Kim and I both were so delighted that the Lookout Point Lakeside Inn WAS every bit the best place ever to stay and relax and (b) Keith raved about it, saying the same, confirming it wasn't just our jaded opinion!  We WILL be back.
