Breeders' Cup 2017 - Day 2

Thursday November 2nd - A Leisurely Day At The Resort

Any time I visit the west coast and/or go overseas I react the same way.....in the evening of the first couple of days my body easily adapts to the "current time."  But once I go to bed I wake up to Easter Standard Time.....so last night I fell asleep about 10:30 PST and woke up the first time at 2:20 am PST, which would be about 5:30 am EST, which is about right.  I did manage to get back to sleep until 4:30 am, which would be "sleeping in" (7:30 am) at home!  We headed out to Panera Bread for a bagel and coffee (they open at 6 am locally) - only about a five minute drive.  After a leisurely morning of watching the new day break on our balcony overlooking the Pacific, Keith and I headed out along the Pacific Coast Highway.

First we headed north about 40 minutes to the outskirts of Carlsbad and then we headed back south for about 40 minutes past our resort.  We stopped along the way at two state parks and walked out to the water to take in the magnificent sights and sounds of the Pacific.  We could have stayed at either spot for quite a while just listening to the waves crash and watching the water.  Pretty cool!

We continued south until we came to Del Mar raced track, then turned around and headed back for about an hour.  After enjoying the ocean view from poolside we headed out for lunch at a place recommended to us, "83 Degrees."  We wanted a good local burger and that's what we got.  But what made the lunch interesting was we saw on the menu an appetizer called a "Meatloaf Cupcake."  Had to at least give it a try.

We enjoyed the burger and got a lot of personal attention from the manager and our waitress, Chloe, since we were the only customers (they had just opened) while we sat out on their patio.  Returned to the resort and spent the afternoon preparing for tomorrow's big day at the races!
